Green Causes
Judy Wicks and White Dog Cafe have been featured in many prominent publications, such as Newsweek, Fast Company, New York Times and Wall Street Journal. Since Wicks opened in 1983, she has received numerous awards for her one-of-a-kind ability to develop a successful yet community conscious business.
A few of her top honors have included: Pennsylvania Association for Sustainable Agriculture's (PASA) Business Leadership Award; U.S. Department of Energy’s Wind Powering America Award for 100 percent Wind Energy Usage; and Clean Water Fund Award for Outstanding Environmental Activism.
An intimate restaurant nestled close to Penn's campus, White Dog Cafe serves American cuisine with an environmental twist. White Dog purchases their ingredients from local, sustainable farms whenever possible, and the restaurant is earning national notice as a result.
Owner Judy Wicks was named 2005 "Humanitarian of the Year" by the prestigious James Beard Foundation and was noted in Oprah Magazine as one of its "5 Amazingly Gifted and Giving Food Professionals." Visit White Dog to find out why — and in the process, enjoy the best in fresh, local cuisine, home brews and intimate dining.
Cuisine
White Dog serves contemporary American cuisine fused with Native American and Southeast Asian influences. Choose from such options as the grilled and chilled asparagus with smoked, wild Alaskan king salmon, Buck Run Farm’s rosemary-grilled strip steak and fried onion rings battered in Flying Fish beer.
The menu features numerous daily specials and changes frequently to bring you the freshest ingredients possible.
