Outsider Tip
This friendly and well-supported ride has been popular for decades, once earning the Best Century Award from the League of American Bicyclists.
Whether you’re up for the full “century” or you’d rather stick to the 50- or 75-mile course options, look for rolling hills and beautiful scenery over low-traffic roads on this popular Bucks County bike ride.
Sponsored each year by the Suburban Bicyclists Unlimited cycling club, the Century ride is known for its tasty home-cooked food — cookies and fruit at each of four rest stops and a steaming plate of pasta at the finish.
About 800 participants usually turn out for this non-competitive event, which starts at Central Bucks High School. Cyclists who want an extra challenge can choose several steep detours which extend the course to 107 miles.
COME PREPARED
There is a fee to register, although parking is ample and free. People who register early through the club’s website get a T-shirt. Riders who want the full course should arrive by 7 a.m., while those who want the 75- or 50-mile courses should come at 8:00 and 8:30 a.m, respectively.
