July 4th Day-long Celebration
On July 4, 1776, Philadelphia proudly became the Birthplace of America. And now, more than 230 years later, Philadelphia is still the place to be to celebrate the Fourth of July!
Head to the Benjamin Franklin Parkway on JULY 4TH to celebrate all day long with a family-friendly festival, parade and performance by Grammy winner John Legend — and of course, fireworks will cap off the evening!
Party on the Parkway Festival, 2:00 - 7:00 p.m., July 4, 2008
Bring your appetite and your red, white and blue apparel as an exciting, family-friendly festival stretches along Benjamin Franklin Parkway from the Franklin Institute to the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
Southwest July 4th Parade, 7:00 - 8:30 p.m., July 4, 2008
What would the Fourth of July be without a great parade? Immediately following the conclusion of the festival, Southwest Airlines sponsors Philadelphia's main parade to celebrate the Fourth.
Drill teams, marching bands and spectacular floats from across the country will join together for a patriotic salute to Independence Day. Don't miss it!
Sunoco Sweet Sounds of Liberty Concert and Fireworks, 8:30 - 11:00 p.m., July 4, 2008 After the parade ends, the main event begins. The Sweet Sounds of Liberty Concert and Fireworks draw hundreds of thousands to the Art Museum each year.
And this year promises to be a special treat — five-time Grammy Award winner John Legend will headline the concert, preceded by Philly's own The Stylistics.
The celebration comes to a dramatic conclusion with a star-spangled fireworks display above the Philadelphia Museum of Art, a truly breathtaking finale to a fun-filled Fourth of July.
