Outsider Tip
Be sure to ask about the preserve’s Plant Stewardship Index, an innovative new program that uses native plant species to measure the ecological quality of the land. You might also want to take home some native plants and seeds for your garden, which are available for purchase year-round in the Twinleaf Gift Shop.
Volunteer at Bowman's Hill
The preserve counts on volunteers for every aspect of running the preserve, including staffing the gift shop, guiding nature walks, and organizing special events. Visit Bowman's Hill Wildlife Preserve for more information.
Bring your binoculars with you to Bowman's, a hilltop preserve where more than 1,000 species of native perennial woodland wildflowers, trees, shrubs and ferns draw an array of birds.
Take the seasonal “bloom guide” as you follow the trails that link woodland, meadow and dry upland habitats. The grounds beautifully showcase the wondrous diversity of plants native to Pennsylvania in a 100-acre natural landscape.
Don’t miss the gazebo nestled among the tall trees of Penn’s Woods arboretum and remember the moonlit walk, which is open to kids as well as adults.
COME PREPARED
Bikes, dogs and picnics are allowed on the grounds outside the preserve, but not inside the protected area.
DON'T MISS
There’s a wide variety of plants and shrubs at the native plant sales every May and September.
