West Oak Lane is the site of an annual jazz and arts festival that grows in popularity each year.
Now in its fifth year, the 2008 festival will feature three days of non-stop music on four outdoor stages. Hundreds of musicians will be performing, including Ashford & Simpson, The O’Jays, WAR, Mandrill, The Whispers, Pieces of a Dream, Kevin Eubanks and Warren Oree & the Arpeggio Jazz Ensemble.
The Vendor Village, which features African-inspired crafts, will complement the music — along with a food court and other family-friendly activities like face and body painting.
Special festival events include painting demonstrations by Pancho Brown and Charles Bibbs, a doll-making workshop and the Po/Jazz Connection featuring well-known poets and musicians.
The festival is free and open to the entire family!
Free Shuttle Service
Free shuttle buses will transport festival attendees from the Independence Visitor Center (6th and Market Streets) to the festival.
This year’s festival also features a free shuttle to Historic Germantown for storytelling, crafts, re-enactors, living history performances and tours of historic sites in the Northwest, including the Stenton and Johnson House, an authentic Underground Railroad site.
