Outsider Tip
Fall foliage is brilliant here, and Council Rock is a popular backdrop for wedding photographs.
Wildlife thrives under a canopy of huge trees in this oasis of woods and meadows, a bequest from the late George Horace Lorimer, former editor-in-chief of the Saturday Evening Post.
You can hike, bike or ride horseback to Council Rock, a majestic outcropping overlooking Pennypack Creek, which, according to legend, is where the region’s Native Americans once held ceremonial meetings.
Anglers will appreciate the fact that the creek is regularly stocked with trout.
COME PREPARED
Dogs and alcoholic beverages are not permitted.
